Tamara Abalde is a Spanish basketball player, currently playing for the Spanish team Duran Maquinaria Ensino. She played for Spain in the 2008 Summer Games and for the Lamar Cardinals in the NCAA.
Tamara Abalde was born on February 6, 1989, in Ferrol, Spain. Her father was a professional basketball player and introduced her to basketball at an early age. Tamara Abalde attended Compania de Maria school and San José de la Guia in Vigo before joining Celta de Vigo Baloncesto’s youth teams in 2003.
Tamara Abalde made her debut in the Spanish top-tier league at 15 for Celta de Vigo. With the team she played three seasons, before attending to Lamar University and was named to the Southland Conference First Team to play in the NCAA. In addition, she was only the second player to earn SLC Freshman of the Year honors. During the season she recorded five double-doubles and accumulated eight games with at least 20 points scored.
After one season with Lamar of the NCAA, Tamara Abalde decided to leave the team to pursue a professional career in Europe. She played two seasons in Rivas Futura / Ecopolis (2008-2010), one season in Pays d’Aix Basket 13 (2011-2012), and one season in Basket Landes (2012-2013).
Tamara Abalde signed for Spanish team Perfumerías Avenida in 2013, winning two Spanish Cups, two Spanish Supercups and finishing as runner-up of the League twice. Looking for more playtime she spent the next three seasons in three different clubs before signing for the newly promoted team Valencia Basket in 2018. She played two seasons in the club between 2018 and 2020.
Tamara Abalde signed with Kutxabank Araski in 2020 and after one season moved to her current club Duran Maquinaria Ensino.
At the international level, Tamara Abalde won the gold at the 2019 Eurobasket, after the bronze at the 2009 Eurobasket. She also won the silver at the 2009 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship (youth), when was selected as MVP.
